Revisit one of the world’s most well-known, influential, and imitated paintings as you assemble The Birth of Venus in 1000-pieces. This puzzle makes a thoughtful gift for those who appreciate architecture, history, and the beauty of Botticelli's works.
A masterpiece of its time, remarkable enough to impact art for hundreds of years after its own creation, The Birth of Venus established Botticelli as an icon of Renaissance art. The first secular painting to incorporate nudity, the image was controversial both for its content and its support, as it was a rare painting on canvas rather than the more prestigious panelled wood of the period.
This jigsaw puzzle accompanies the Ashmolean special exhibition Aphrodite: The Making of a Goddess, on display at the Ashmolean Museum 8 October 2026 - 11 April 2027.
Coming in at 1,000 pieces, this jigsaw offers an ideal challenge that is large enough to enjoy as a project without being overwhelming. Once assembled, it measures 74 x 51cm (29 x 20in).
Made from high-quality 250-GSM matte art paper for superior colour, crisp details, and no glare. Printed on ribbon-cut thick board for snug fit and minimal dust. Gather with family and friends for puzzle-piecing together!
Sandro Botticelli (1445-1510) was an Italian painter who was one of the greatest painters of the Florentine Renaissance. His Birth of Venus and La Primavera are often said to epitomize for modern viewers the spirit of the Renaissance. The son of a tanner, he was born Alessandro di Mariano Filipepi, but he was given the nickname 'Botticelli', derived from the word 'botticello' meaning 'small wine cask'.
