Look at what the cat dragged in from the Middle Ages - a compendium of cats unlike any you've ever lapped up before. Filled with playful humour, Medieval Cats: Claws, Paws and Kitties of Yore is the ideal bedside companion for devoted cat lovers, cat-holics (not to be mistaken for Catholics) and those who find joy in the unintentionally funny art of medieval illustration.
For more than a millennium, a myriad of manuscripts and artworks painted a curious picture of medieval cats as both playful and loving companions, as well as vicious, supernatural agents of Satan. Today, the legacy of these masterpieces lives on, shining a bright light on the dark age of cats, and telling their hilarious - and often horrifying - history in all its paw-some glory.
From bum-licking to mouse-tricking, dog-fighting to nip-dribbling, Medieval Cats is a claw-filled clowder of more than 100 comical felines getting up to no good - and a whole lot more! - from ye olde times of yester yore.
Professor Catherine Nappington - a pseudonym of Malcolm Croft - teaches felinology, the study of cats, at Maine (Coon) University in Maine, United States. She lives with her two tabbies in Portland, a city that has more than 700,000 cats (true fact), and is the cat-lady capital of America. She doesn't get out much.
