Kawase Hasui Shinagawa Print

£10.00

Pickup available at Ashmolean Museum

Usually ready in 2-4 days

A 11 x 14" print of Shinagawa by Kawase Hasui, taken from the series Selection of Views of the Tokaido. A prolific printmaker associated with Japan's Shin-hanga movement, Kawase Hasui is renowned for his exquisite landscapes that depict his native country.

An electricity pole in the centre background of this view shows that we are in modern Tokyo, yet the work retains a timeless, nostalgic feel. Kawase Hasui was an artist of the ‘New Print’ movement, which revitalised the Japanese woodblock print tradition by combining elements of Western art, such as shading and perspective, with traditional techniques and subjects. New Prints portrayed an idealised Japan that was a continuation of the image evoked by Hiroshige and Hokusai decades earlier

Supplied unframed, this print comes with a backing board and is sealed in a clear cellophane pocket. Fits perfectly into one of our mini print frames.
