Ashmolean Museum Oxford
The Sea at Satta in Suruga Province by Utagawa Hiroshige. A prolific artist, Hiroshige is thought to have created between 4,000 and 5,000 print designs during a career that lasted almost 50 years. He also worked as a painter and book illustrator.
Taken from his famous Thirty-Six Views of Mount Fuji series, this particular image utilises a large, curling wave as the foreground's framing device.
