Ashmolean Museum Oxford
A greetings card showing the famous pine beach of Miho, Suruga bay, on a summer's day by Kawase Hasui. Purple Mount Fuji rises in the distance as scattered afternoon clouds rise above a peaceful beach, figures seen near the shore working in a small wooden boat.
Kawase Hasui was a prominent Japanese printmaker known for his striking depictions of Japanese landscapes. His early works were influenced by the ukiyo-e tradition of Japanese woodblock printing, but Hasui’s style soon evolved to become more realistic and impressionistic.
