Add a playful touch to your stationary supplies with this eraser, featuring a design inspired by the artwork series London Views created by Stanley Donwood. The original artwork is a collection of fourteen linocut prints depicting different London landmarks engulfed by fire and flood. Part of this series was used as cover art for Thom Yorke's debut solo album The Eraser (2006).
This product is featured as part of the Ashmolean Museum This Is What You Get: Stanley Donwood, Radiohead, Thom Yorke exhibition.
The cover art for The Eraser was designed by Stanley Donwood, known for his work with Radiohead. The linocut, titled London Views, shows a figure standing before a flood-devastated London, echoing King Cnut's (also known Canute) unsuccessful attempt to hold back the sea. This artwork was inspired by the 2004 Boscastle flood and an article by environmentalist Jonathan Porritt, who compared the British government’s climate change stance to the Canute legend.
A vital part of any aspiring artists repertoire, an eraser is always useful for correcting and amending any unwanted mistakes. This version just happens to come from the design minds of some alternative rockstars. Yorke wrote and recorded his solo debut The Eraser during Radiohead's hiatus in 2004 and 2005, and serves as the inspiration behind this item.
