This premium print depicts Japanese printmaker Tsukioka Yoshitoshi's 1889 woodblock print work Jade Rabbit - Sun Wukong (alternative title - Gyokuto - Songokū) an example of work from his One Hundred Aspects of the Moon series (1885-1892). The immortal monkey Sun Wukong, known as Songoku in Japanese, means ‘enlightened emptiness’. Here, his companion is the Rabbit in the Moon, also known as the Jade Rabbit, often associated with mixing the drugs for the elixir of life.
Tsukioka Yoshitoshi was a Japanese printmaker and last great master of the ukiyo-e genre, with his career spanning across two eras: the final years of Edo period Japan, and the beginning of modern Japan after Meiji Restoration.
Supplied unframed, these prints have a pearl finish, come with a backing board and are sealed in a clear cellophane pocket. It fits perfectly into one of our A3 print frames.
