Ashmolean Museum Oxford
A print of a detailed working drawing of a Bass Viol attributed to John Rose c1600, from The Hill Collection of Musical Instruments No. 4. The lively outline of this viol, with its matching flamelike sound-holes, is found on bass viols well into the seventeenth century.
Although there is no label, the viol has been attributed to John Rose the younger.
Part of a range of reproduction drawings from the Hill Collection of Musical Instruments, where they are used by luthiers to replicate and repair stringed instruments.
You don't have to be a musician to appreciate these wonderful drawings which also make great wall art pieces.
