Shedding Light A6 Notepad

The cover of this A6 notepad is inspired by the custom artwork, created to cover the walls of the museum's Shedding Light installation, created in a wallpaper style by Bamidele Awoyemi and Sobiah Harry. Each notepad comes with a matching Ashmolean-branded bellyband.

Shedding Light is the outcome of a collaboration between producers and consultants from Oxford's Caribbean community, artists, researchers and a museum team. The producers chose to showcase the intertwined histories of colonialism, enslavement, sugar, and ceramics through the creation of a 1950-60s Caribbean living room; a powerful symbol of British Caribbean heritage, resilience and identity.

Repeated drawings of sugarcane, ships, teacups, and broken chains are incorporated into the wallpaper pattern. Representing the history of colonialism, enslavement, and emancipation in the Caribbean. This is the historical backdrop from which the Windrush generation emerged, and is a context that must not be allowed to fade.

Handy notepads are great for jotting down a quick note wherever you are. This pocket-sized pad features approximately 60 sheets of recycled 80gsm blank paper, 350gsm FSC front cover with recycled strawboard back cover.

This notepad is part of the shop's collection that accompanies the Ashmolean Museum installation Shedding Light on display in gallery 40, which reveals the entangled histories of colonialism, enslavement, sugar, and ceramics. Click here to find out more about this installation.
