Get ready to add a touch of African wonder to your home with our handmade soapstone elephant soap dish or jewellery tray! This charming carving is the perfect way to bring the spirit of one of Africa's most sacred animals into your life.
Sustainably quarried and hand crafted by skilled artisans in Kenya, each dish is a unique work of art. Made from authentic Kenyan soapstone, this tactile metamorphic rock has an appearance that resembles marble. With its distinctive variations in colour and pattern, your dish will be truly one-of-a-kind. You might even get lucky and receive one with interesting colourful hues! For example, the pink variant ranges from rose to peach.
Not only is this dish visually striking, it's also practical. Store your jewellery, keys, or bathroom essentials in it, or let it stand alone as an accent piece. Every dish has been polished to a smooth finish and treated with natural beeswax to ensure it lasts for years to come. Soapstone is non-porous and heat resistant, making it great for a wide range of uses.
All of the Pitt Rivers Museum's contemporary soapstone products are hand carved in a small town in the South West of Kenya, by a youth self-help group, founded in 1996 with 40 members.
Please note: handle with care and always wash by hand. Soapstone is not suitable for dishwashers.
