Kingfisher Short Bulb Vase

by Emma Baldwin

£60.00

Beautiful bursts of kingfisher blue layer this short bulb vase. Using Japanese brushes underglazes are applied onto the clay before the first firing, overtime the outer glazes are applied either by brushing on, dipping, or pouring, creating this stunning piece.

This range of one of a kind ceramic pieces has been created by local artist and teacher Emma Baldwin. Specially made to accompany the Colour Revolution: Victorian Art, Fashion & Design exhibition at the Ashmolean, the pieces have been inspired by the vivid colours of the artwork Study of a Kingfisher, a watercolour by John Ruskin.

All pieces in this range are handmade, meaning each piece is a uniquely individual and may vary slightly in colour and shape.

East Oxford based Baldwin has been working with clay from the age of 14, and is the 2023 winner of a special competition by the Ashmolean & Handmade in Britain.

‘My inspiration comes from many sources and is realised through the process of combining hand built and wheel thrown forms.’
