This Is What You Get Teapot

£100.00

Crafted by Duchess China 1888 in the heart of Stoke-on-Trent, this bespoke teapot brings together centuries-old fine bone china craftsmanship with the raw, atmospheric power of contemporary art. It's combination of traditional manufacturing processes and classic physical design, with contemporary cutting edge artwork incorporated into the decoration makes this teapot a refreshing example of a luxury heritage-made product with a modern twist.

This custom-made item is part of the exhibition collection for the Ashmolean Museum's upcoming special exhibition This is What You Get (opening 6 Aug 2025 to 11 Jan 2026) exploring the visual art of Stanley Donwood and Thom Yorke and the iconic images of Radiohead. The design draws directly from a series of collaborative paintings by Stanley Donwood and Thom York. These works also appear on recent albums by The Smile, including A Light for Attracting Attention and Cutouts.

Made out of UK-sourced clay from Cornwall, this teapot stands out as a distinctive piece of kitchen and tableware, perfect for collectors, tea connoisseurs, or Radiohead fans looking to add a traditional and classic, yet contemporary design to their home. A true heirloom item that can be cherished for many years to come.

This product is dishwasher and microwave safe, although the manufacturer recommends to hand wash only to best preserve condition.

The impeccable craftsmanship of this bone china teapot means appreciating this piece goes beyond admiring the artistry adorning the item's surface. For over 135 years, Duchess China 1888 have been producing quality bespoke fine bone china and are the last authentic producers remaining in the United Kingdom. Their British made Fine Bone China Teapots are produced at their Staffordshire manufacturing site with a mix of hand and machine slip casting. The skill and precision of making teapots is a very difficult art to manufacture consistently where two pieces of china, the base and lid have to shrink in unison in the production process. The skill set and craftmanship employed make these products a quality, consistent and unique piece of fine bone china.

The bespoke design of the teapot was inspired by several original artworks from Thom Yorke and Stanley Donwood, including: Membranes (2022); Let Us Raise Our Glasses to What We Don't Deserve (2023); Besuch (2022).
