Designed as two books in one, this beautifully designed publication features vibrant paintings by contemporary artists Flora Yukhnovich and Daniel Crews-Chubb.

Both artists have gained international recognition for their innovative works, which interrogate motifs, archetypes and styles of art history, while showcasing a unique and highly recognisable visual language. The book accompanies an exhibition at the Ashmolean Museum Oxford for which the artists created new paintings, inspired by the Ashmolean's collections.

Flora Yukhnovich (b.1990 in Norwich) found herself, surprisingly, drawn to the Ashmolean's Dutch and Flemish Still Lifes Paintings Gallery. In her new paintings, she explores playfully and critically their relationship with traditional notions of femininity. Daniel Crews-Chubbs (b.1984 in Northampton) was particularly interested in international pre-historic sculptures that depict non-human figures, such as deities. In his Immortals series, he has experimented with their postures and expressions to create his own fantastical figures.

The book features new essays as well as in-conversations between the artists and exhibition curator Lena Fritsch.
