Ashmolean Museum Oxford
A 100% natural cotton tote bag, featuring a detail of the Great Bookcase. The piece is currently on display at the Ashmolean Museum as part of the Colour Revolution: Victorian Art, Fashion & Design exhibition.
Dante’s Vision, detail from The Great Bookcase by Edward John Poynter (1836–1919)
The Ashmolean’s extraordinarily colourful Great Bookcase (1859–62) was the centrepiece of the Exhibition’s Medieval Court. At three meters high, the bookcase echoes the polychrome porch of a Gothic cathedral, although its style is more eclectic.
