Ashmolean Museum Oxford
A premium print featuring A bowl of crabs by Liu Xiling (1848-1923), ink and colour on paper most likely finger painted.
Active in the Guangxu (1875-1908) period of the Qing dynasty Liu Xiling was from Huayang (present-day Chengdu) in Sichuan province, but as a painter was active in Zhejiang. His painting style and subject matter were inspired by Gao Qipei (1660-1734).
The inscription on the print reads: 'The taste of crabs (in the right season) are of course praise worthy, but they taste even more refreshing when you are drunk.'
Supplied unframed, these prints have a pearl finish, come with a backing board and are sealed in a clear cellophane pocket. It fits perfectly into one of our A3 print frames.
