Take home a memento from the Ashmolean NOW exhibition with this eye catching double-sided concertina postcard replicating the work of Soma Surovi Jannat, Between the Sea and the Sky, Who Holds the Ground? (2024-25).

This postcard's original artwork, a monumental 30ft paper scroll with archival ink, gold and silver leaf and acrylic, is reimagined in miniature on this four-panel concertina card, printed on both sides so that the stunning detail can be appreciated in a portable, hand-held version.

Once unfolded, the postcard measures approx. 59cm in length, and due to the concertina panelling is able to be displayed standing by itself.

This artwork, along with others by the Bangladeshi artist, will be on display as part of the fifth instalment of the free Ashmolean NOW series located in Gallery 8 of the Ashmolean Museum. Open from 28 March - 1 November 2026.

In 2023, Soma Surovi Jannat (b.1990), one of the most exciting emerging artists working in South Asia, became the Ashmolean’s first artist-in-residence from Bangladesh. Jannat’s art practice arises from a profound connection with nature. Inspired by the Ashmolean collection, her recent works weave together motifs to create new imaginary worlds of forests, bodies of water, animal and human forms.

The exhibition will capture the ways in which Jannat explores the climate crisis, natural disasters, and the disproportionate impact on marginalised communities and ecosystems. An artist of exceptional talent and versatility, this would be Jannat’s first solo exhibition in the UK focusing on her engagement with the Ashmolean collections and the works created between 2023 and 2026.
