Painter Charles Paine had a versatile and prolific style that became iconic on the London Underground. Using strong colours and simplified images, his stylistic art was influenced by animals and his time living in the garden suburb of Welwyn Garden City.
This notecard pack shows a group of swallows, and was used in the Whitsuntide outings transport poster, produced in 1921.
