Warrior-turned-artist Hashimoto Chikanobu (Japanese, 1838–1912) was one of the most prolific woodblock artists of the day, known for depicting a wide range of subjects. He represented the elegant surroundings of courtesans, royal subjects, and other beautiful people in brilliant hues of reds, blues, and purples. The three-panel notecards in this assortment feature four of Chikanobu’s striking triptychs.
