Ashmolean Museum Shop Accessibility Statement

The Ashmolean Shop is the E-commerce platform of the Ashmolean Museum Shop, University of Oxford. The Ashmolean Museum Shop, University of Oxford is committed to providing an accessible web presence that gives members of the public full access to the website. To this end the platform has been designed to encourage and facilitate accessibility considerations wherever possible.

Ashmolean Shop Support for Accessibility

To help ensure that the Ashmolean Shop websites are as accessible as possible, the platform has been implemented in accordance with the guidelines outlined in the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0. These aim to make web content more accessible for people with disabilities and user friendly for everyone. We are committed to meeting AA guidelines and also aim to meet AAA standards wherever possible.

The Ashmolean Shop is built in Magento 2 using a Bootstrap enabled theme. Both Magento and Bootstrap are developed with accessibility in mind:

The accessibility of a website relies to a significant extent on good practice when creating content. The Ashmolean Shop includes several features to encourage the creation of accessible content, including mandatory descriptions of every image provided, either in the alt tag or on the page itself. We try to ensure that link text makes sense out of context and that it accurately describes the pages it points to. You can use the tab key on your keyboard (as well as your mouse) to move from consecutive link to link.

Improving your experience

While the Ashmolean Shop has been created to be highly usable, you may attain the most accessible experience by customising your computer to suit your individual needs – for example: to get a site spoken to you, to change its colour-scheme, or to increase the size of its fonts.
