The Wilton Diptych in Oxford

The Ashmolean is proud to be a partner venue for the National Treasures displays in 2024. As part of its 200th birthday celebrations, the National Gallery is loaning 12 paintings to venues around the UK. The Ashmolean will display the Wilton Diptych, painted about 1395-9 and made for Richard II, King of England from 1377 to 1399.

Vases & Cypress Trees

A colourful range adorned with a floral pattern and inspired by a set of tiles displaying vases and cypress trees amid flowers from our collection. These tiles originate in 17th century Syria and can be viewed in our Islamic Middle East gallery on the first floor (Gallery 31). The collection has been created exclusively for the Ashmolean.

William Morris

William Morris was a British textile designer, poet, novelist, translator, and socialist activist, and he was a major contributor to the revival of traditional British textile arts and methods of production. In 1861, he founded Morris & Co, along with several of his Pre Raphaelite contemporaries. Morris & Co continues to produce a variety of homewares and is best known for the distinctive and intricate repeat patterns on furnishing, fabric and wallpapers.
