No. 2 Bass Viol by Gasparo da Salò Print

£40.00

Print of a detailed working drawing of a Bass Viol by Gasparo da Salò, from The Hill Collection of Musical Instruments No. 2. This instrument has several features that are typical of the sixteenth-century viol: the tailpiece, mounted on a hook bar, the sloping upper back, the indented middle bouts with pointed corners, and the cshaped sound holes with central nicks.

Gasparo Bertolotti took the name Gasparo da Salò from the town of Salò on Lake Garda, where he was born in 1540. He is said to have moved to Brescia in about 1562, where he became one of the leading members of the flourishing Brescian school of makers of stringed instruments.

Part of a range of reproduction drawings from the Hill Collection of Musical Instruments, where they are used by luthiers to replicate and repair stringed instruments.

You don't have to be a musician to appreciate these wonderful drawings which also make great wall art pieces.
